CHARLOTTE — Charlotte FC has signed centre-back Jan Sobociński.
The 21-year-old Polish international arrives from ŁKS Łódź of Poland’s I Liga. Sobociński, a left-footed central defender, represented his country in the 2019 U-20 World Cup.
“We are thrilled to add to a young, promising player like Jan to our inaugural roster,” said Charlotte FC Sporting Director Zoran Krneta. “He boasts valuable experience for club and country, and offers a unique skill set for a player of his age. We look forward to watching him progress even more over the next year.”
Sobociński joined the youth ranks at Łódź in 2015, and was loaned to Polish third-division side Gryf Wejherowo for first-team experience in 2017-18. Upon returning to Łódź the following season, he became a first-team regular.
Sobociński has recorded a total of 89 domestic appearances, and has registered six goals. He has represented Poland at youth level 16 times, most recently in the U21 team.
“It’s an honor to have a place on Charlotte FC’s inaugural roster and to be a part of the club’s history,” says Sobociński. “I look forward to playing in Major League Soccer and cannot wait to call Charlotte home.”
Sobociński will occupy one of Charlotte FC’s eight international roster slots.
