Head Coach Gonzalo Segares Continues Prep for World Cup Qualifying at Elite Athlete Training Center in Southern California;

2023 Concacaf U-17 Championship Set for Feb. 11-26 in Guatemala

CHICAGO (Aug. 16, 2022) – U.S. Under-17 Men’s Youth National Team head coach Gonzalo Segares has called up 23 players for a training camp at the Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. from Aug. 18-24.

Players born on or after Jan. 1, 2006 are age-eligible for this U-17 MYNT cycle, which will culminate with the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Peru. Segares has selected 21 players born in 2006 and two born in 2007. Concacaf announced today that the 2023 Concacaf U-17 Championship, which will qualify four teams to Peru, will be held Feb. 11-26 in Guatemala.

This training camp will take place concurrently with the U-16 MYNT camp in Chula Vista and the teams will scrimmage during their time in Southern California.

It’s the U-17 MYNT’s fifth gathering under Segares since he was named head coach in October 2021. Most recently, the U-17s finished first at a UEFA Development Tournament held in May, falling to Italy 1-0 before topping Belgium 3-0 and host Portugal 2-1.

Twelve players are taking part in their first U-17 training camp this cycle: goalkeepers Nolan Anderson and Adam Beaudry, defenders Ezequial Abadia-Reda, Matai Akinmboni, Dominic Bell, Sawyer Jura, Tadeo Razo Sanchez and Lazar Stefanovic, midfielders Bento Estrela, Alejandro Granados and Ian Shaul as well as forward Bryce Jamison.

Fifteen clubs are represented on the roster, including 14 in Major League Soccer, with three players each coming from Houston Dynamo FC and the Philadelphia Union. The roster hails from 13 different states, led by six players from California.

U-15 MYNT Head Coach Tom Heinneman Will Lead Training Camp at Elite Athlete Training Center in Southern California 

CHICAGO (Aug. 16, 2022) – The U.S. Under-16 Men’s Youth National Team will gather for a 23-player training camp at the Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. from Aug. 18-24. U-15 MYNT head coach Tom Heinneman will lead the training camp.

Players born on or after Jan. 1, 2007 are age-eligible for this U-16 MYNT cycle. The roster features 21 players born in 2007 and two born in 2008.

This training camp will take place concurrently with the U-17 MYNT camp in Chula Vista and the teams will scrimmage during their time in Southern California. All players called to the U-16 MYNT are also age-eligible for the U-17 MYNT and the upcoming 2023 Concacaf U-17 Championship, set for Feb. 11-26 in Guatemala.

The 2007-birth year player pool most recently competed at the Torneo delle Nazioni this spring in Austria, Italy and Slovenia as the U-15 MYNT. Ten players return from the tournament roster, where the USA won its group and finished fourth overall in the 12-team field. This will be Heinneman’s third training camp with the age group since he was hired as U-15 head coach in Feb. 2022.

Sixteen clubs are represented on the roster, including 14 in Major League Soccer. Four players were selected from LAFC, while Barca Residency Academy midfielder Leonardo Orejarena and Sacramento Republic FC midfielder Blake Willey come from outside MLS academy set-ups.
