Charlotte FC Announces Brian Edwards as Academy Goalkeeper Coach

CHARLOTTEā€”Brian Edwards has been appointed as Goalkeeper coach for Charlotte FCā€™s Academy, the club announced on Thursday.Ā 

Edwards, whose playing career included stints in Major League Soccer and Europe, boasts a proven track record of success in both individual and team-oriented coaching initiatives.Ā 

ā€œWe are excited to have Brian join our staff as Academy Goalkeeper Coach,ā€ says Charlotte FC Academy Manager Dan Lock. ā€œHe brings a tremendous wealth of experience from playing in MLS, internationally and professionally in Sweden, and as a national champion with Wake Forest in the college game.Ā 

ā€œHe also has great knowledge of the local market through his coaching role with UNC Charlotte. Brian will be a big asset to our Academy and the players will benefit from his expertise and experience.ā€

Edwards serves as Assistant Menā€™s Coach at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, which has won multiple titles during his six-season tenure. He will continue to perform this role concurrently with his Charlotte FC duties.Ā 

ā€œI remember tracking Brian as a player from his National Title at Wake Forest and through the MLS draft,ā€ says Charlotte FC Technical Director Marc Nicholls. ā€œAs a player, he was also called into the USA squad as they prepared for the 2010 World Cup. We are fortunate to have such experience on our doorstep. Brian possesses a drive and dedication to the development of truly elite level goalkeeping.ā€Ā 

Edwardsā€™ coaching experience also entails a season as Assistant Soccer Coach at Hofstra University, and a role as Coaching Director with the Carolina Rapids.Ā
