Veteran goalkeeper joins CLTFC ahead of 2024 season.
CHARLOTTE, NC (Tuesday, January 30, 2024) - Charlotte FC today announced the Club has signed goalkeeper David Bingham to a guaranteed contract through 2025.
Bingham, 34, comes to Charlotte for his 13th season in Major League Soccer. The former U.S. international has played 202 matches in MLS for three clubs—the San Jose Earthquakes, LA Galaxy and Portland Timbers.
Most recently, Bingham started 19 matches for the Timbers in 2023 where he kept five clean sheets. He was eligible for free agency following the 2023 season.
“David has been a well-respected goalkeeper in this league for over a decade and we’re excited to add him to our goalkeeping options for the 2024 season,” said Charlotte FC General Manager Zoran Krneta. “He’s going to come in and add competition to our goalkeeper group, and as a veteran player, provide valuable experience for our young goalkeepers to learn from daily.”
Bingham began his MLS career with the San Jose Earthquakes in 2011 eventually becoming the starter in 2015 and appeared in 97 matches for the club. During his time in San Jose, he had loan spells with the San Antonio Scorpions and Strømmen IF.
He was traded to the Galaxy ahead of the 2018 season where he started 85 matches and helped lead the club to the playoffs in 2019 where he started two games.
Bingham joined Portland in 2022 and went on to make 21 appearances for the Timbers in two seasons.
