The 18-year-old is the youngest player that has signed with the club in preparation for the 2022 MLS season
CHARLOTTE, NC (Tuesday, June 29, 2021) – Charlotte FC today announced that the club has signed defender Adam Armour. Armour, a native of Cary, NC, joins on a two-and-a-half-year contract with a one-year option.
Armour played with the U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team roster for the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil and the 2019 Concacaf U-17 Championship. The 18-year-old played a total of 19 games with the national soccer team. Charlotte FC have tracked Armour’s development closely since the club announced its new franchise.
“We are very excited to welcome Adam to Charlotte FC,” said Charlotte FC Sporting Director Zoran Krneta. “We are proud to sign a North Carolina native. He is a young talent with good technical skills and a strong potential to grow with the team. He will benefit from working alongside experienced defenders like Christian Fuchs and will provide defensive support as we build the foundation of a successful club.”
Born to parents from Dominica and Jamaica, the U.S. youth international signed with the German second division FC Nürnberg in the fall of 2020.
“To be able to play in your home state and represent the Carolinas in matches against MLS teams is a great challenge and a dream come true,” said Armour. “I am honored to have this opportunity and can’t wait to continue my professional career with a team that will make soccer bigger and better in this region.”
The contract of Armour represents the club’s commitment to create a strong professional player development system. With the signing, Armour is now the sixth player in Charlotte FC’s inaugural roster, joining defenders Christian Fuchs and Jan Sobociński, and midfielders Brandt Bronico, Sergio Ruiz and Riley McGree. The club will debut in 2022.
