CHARLOTTE – Last night was a night to remember, especially so for Charlotte FC defender and city native, Jaylin Lindsey.
“It was unbelievable. I was just telling one of the guys that it really hit me during the national anthem, that this was it, this is what I’ve been working for my whole life.”
It’s now been around two months since the team first got together to start preseason. Learning head coach Miguel Ramírez's game model has been a large learning curve for the players but with every game, they look increasingly comfortable in it.
“If you asked me this in preseason, I would have been nervous,” Lindsey responds to a question asking him about the comfortability of team in Ramírez's system.
“Now that we have our groove and we have our daily routine of his structure and playstyle, I now feel really, really comfortable [in the system] and I think the other guys feel the same way. It’s all about repetition.”
“It sucks to lose, I hate to lose but at the same time I am so, so proud. I think overall and especially defensively, I’m so proud of how we played. Everyone defensively was on the same page. At the same time, we still created some good chances on offense. But we are still just starting. Give us some time, by halfway through the season, I think we’ll be a really good team.”
This match was a moment that Lindsey had been dreaming and working for almost the entirety of his life.
“This was the best game I’ve been a part of my entire life. Before walking off the pitch I sat right in the middle of the pitch just trying to soak it all in... I’m so proud of myself and the team and how we played.”
