Charlotte, NC (Monday, July 10, 2023)- Crown Legacy FC forward Patrick Agyemang was voted MLS NEXT Pro’s Player of the Matchday for his performance in the Club’s 3-1 win over Atlanta United 2 in Week 16.
Agyemang led the way for CLFC, netting a brace in the first half with only two minutes separating the goals. The forward now leads Crown Legacy FC in goals with seven in nine matches, only three goals behind the MLS NEXT Pro Golden Boot leader.
Agyemang’s brace against ATL2 was his second consecutive brace for CLFC with his first coming on June 25th as part of a 4-2 win over Chicago Fire FC II.
Since the beginning of June, the forward netted six goals for Crown Legacy FC and a last-minute equalizer for Charlotte FC against the Seattle Sounders. Agyemang also became the first player in league history to score in both MLS and MLS NEXT Pro on back-to-back days.
Agyemang is the second player for Crown Legacy FC to earn Player of the Matchday honors with fellow forward Brandon Cambridge being given the same award in week 2. This is also the sixth recognition MLS NEXT Pro has given Crown Legacy FC in its inaugural season as the Club has taken home Team of the Month honors twice (April and June), a Player of the Month award for Iuri Tavares (May) and Midseason Coach of the Year for Head Coach Jose Tavares.
Crown Legacy FC currently sits atop of MLS NEXT Pro with 41 points and will look to separate themselves from the rest of the Eastern Conference as it takes on second place New England Revolution II on Wednesday, July 12 at 11 a.m. ET.
